What would the tank do to an average city street? Given it's weight?

Could the roads become damaged enough to hinder the tanks' mobility? Or would they simply get turned to gravel.

Depends on the ground underneath the road and of what the road itself is constructed. As a general rule as long as the tank can float on the ground underneath it and its tracks obtain enough purchase to overcome the coefficient of friction slippage the tank will move where its tracks carry it.

Thank you very much Keffler, I am trying to write a scenario where a National Guard Brigade enters an American city (in 2003) to stop an insurrection. And I wanted to have them use Armor in an urban combat role. So now I can have the Tanks and IFV's move around without too much worry. I am trying to be realistic here.
